COUPLE LEAVE PLANNING

Plan Christmas leave together

Make Christmas Day part of a break that fits both schedules and each person’s own leave allowance. Every suggested leave request is a proposal. Needs employer approval.

Just checking your own roster? Will I be home for Christmas?

Choose the Christmas Day preset for the next upcoming Christmas and its December–January search window, then enter your own patterns and leave budgets in the planner.

Start with Christmas Day

Choose the dates you are searching, add both real schedules and set each person’s leave allowance separately. Use the Christmas Day preset to include the next upcoming Christmas in the break, then review the exact requests for each person.

The preset sets a search window from 1 Dec to 15 Jan around the next upcoming Christmas. The planner does not assume either person is off on a public holiday; use the schedules and exceptions that apply to you.

Give each person their own leave allowance

Enter the number of shifts or working days each person can request. RotationLife keeps each person within their own allowance. If you also require New Year’s Eve, both dates together may need more leave.

Review the proposed break before requesting leave

Use the exact dates in each recommendation to discuss leave with both employers. A result is a planning proposal, not confirmation that either request will be approved.

2026 example: You work 14 days on, 14 off, starting 1 Dec 2026. Your partner, a nurse, works Monday to Wednesday, 06:00–18:00. Planning only around 24–27 Dec gives 4 days together, with no leave needed. RotationLife suggests instead that your partner requests 21–23 Dec (3 shifts) and you request none: 11 days together, 17–27 Dec 2026, Christmas Day included. A synthetic example; your own schedules will give a different answer.

Questions before you plan

How do I make Christmas Day part of the break?

Choose the Christmas Day preset. It sets the next upcoming 25 Dec as “Inside our main break — required”, so the recommended break must include that date.

Can we plan across Christmas and New Year?

Yes. Set a search window that spans both dates and add each required date using the matching control. Check the year shown on every proposed date.

Does RotationLife combine our leave allowances?

No. Each person has a separate allowance, and the proposed requests must fit that person’s own limit.

Can we book travel as soon as we see the result?

No. Confirm both rosters, travel days and employer approval before making bookings.

What if one person has no leave left?

Enter zero for that person. RotationLife then plans around their existing time off and only suggests leave for the other partner, within that partner’s allowance.
