A FIFO couple leave planner for more days together
Enter both rosters and separate leave budgets to find a concrete break you can discuss with your employers.
Two rosters, one break worth planning
When both of you work a rotation, the same month can look very different on each calendar. One person finishes a swing just as the other starts. A few overlapping days may be easy to spot; deciding whose leave should extend them is harder.
RotationLife works through both rosters and both leave budgets to suggest which working dates each person could request. You get a proposed block of days together, with a separate request for each partner.
How it works in three steps
- Add each roster. Choose the appropriate pattern and check its anchor date against your confirmed schedule. A first working day and a first day off are different starting points.
- Set separate leave budgets. Use the units your employer uses. Add dates that must be inside the break, or dates you need to keep free.
- Review both requests. Check the suggested break and each person’s proposed leave dates.
Example: two offset 14/14 rotations
Search 1 Jan–31 Mar 2027. You both work 14 days on, then 14 days off. Your first working day is 4 Jan 2027; your partner’s is 11 Jan 2027. Each of you has three leave shifts available. This example uses whole-day shifts, with no travel days, holidays or other exceptions.
You: request 3 shifts — 1–3 Feb 2027
Partner: request 3 shifts — 22–24 Jan 2027
You get 13 days together: 22 Jan–3 Feb 2027.
Needs employer approval.
Why this works: You already have 7 days together on 25–31 Jan 2027; your partner requests 22–24 Jan 2027 and you request 1–3 Feb 2027 to make 13.
Without leave, your longest time together in this period is 7 days (25–31 Jan 2027); this plan gives you 13: 22 Jan–3 Feb 2027.
You are already off on 18–31 Jan 2027; your partner is already off on 25 Jan–7 Feb 2027. Each request extends a different end of the time you can spend together. Taking identical leave dates would miss that opportunity. Check both employers’ rules before treating the dates as a travel plan.

Check the details before requesting leave
Do not combine your leave balances into one pot: each request must fit the person making it. Do not assume a rostered day off is a full day at home if a flight or transfer uses part of it. For overnight or 24-hour duties, check actual shift boundaries and how a whole shift is charged.
Start with the two-person leave optimizer. If you are checking your own schedule first, use the homepage leave optimizer. The pay calculator can support a separate estimate; it does not establish paid-leave entitlement. Once travel is confirmed, the flight-home countdown on the homepage provides another way to look ahead.

Questions before you plan
Do both partners need the same rotation?
No. Enter each confirmed pattern separately. Different anchors matter even when both people work 14/14.
Does the result tell each person what to request?
Yes. Review the proposed working dates and leave cost for each person, alongside the suggested days together.
Can we include a wedding or another important date?
Use a date lock when it must fall inside the break. Check the scope of each lock before calculating.
Are rostered days off guaranteed days at home?
No. Travel, overtime and roster changes can affect availability. Confirm those details before treating the result as a travel plan.
Is it free, and do we need an account?
The planner is free and does not require an account. Every proposed leave plan needs employer approval.
